Overview

The city of Barcelona has an atmosphere that combines elegance and sophistication with provincial charm. In exploring its streets you´ll discover medieval romance in its Gothic quarter and the awe-inspiring delights of the fantastic and sometimes outrageous Art Nouveau architecture of Gaudi and his contemporaries.
The Gothic quarter has some of the best-preserved medieval streets while the new part of town is around Montjüic hill, from which there are panoramic views of the city.
The tree-lined Las Ramblas sweeps down from the Plaza de Catalunya to the water, a lively area of cafes, market stalls and lots of street theatre.
Barcelona is also a shopping Mecca, with the city´s flair for style reflected in its numerous boutiques and markets open late into the afternoons. As the sun sets and the city´s many bars and restaurants open, the night comes alive. Dinner is served at any time between nine o´clock and midnight and the festivities around the bars and nightclubs carry on well into the early hours of the morning.

El Prat Barcelona Airport is located 12km (7 miles) southwest of the
city centre.

Getting Downtown Barcelona

The Aerobus service goes to and from Placa de Catalunya every 15 minutes, dropping off at locations along the way and costs €3.45. It is a good option for those with little luggage. Nightbus N11 runs from the airport to Plaça Catalunya

Trains run from the airport to various stations in the city centre every 30 minutes. The airport station is located near Terminal A and is connected to the terminal by a moving walkway.

Taxis to and from the airport charge a minimum of €10.The ride to a downtown hotel costs approximately €20, including a €2 airport supplement. Taxi ranks are located outside the terminal buildings.

When to Fly to Barcelona

Peak Season:
Barcelona is Spain’s most popular tourist destination and summer is the peak season. Many of the locals depart for the beach in August and leave the city to the visitors. Ideal times to visit are May, June and September when the weather is warm but not sizzling hot.

Off Season:
Between tourists and business travellers, Barcelona is busy year-round. September has fewer tourists and October has lots of rain. Although the winters are mild, make sure your room is heated
