Overview
Koh Samui is one of the popular tourist destinations in Thailand. Koh Samui is Thailand’s self-styled Boutique Island, with its lovely beaches and laid back atmosphere. Almost entirely developed now as a tourist island, Samui remains low-rise and is popular not only for travel but also foreigners owning villas and property on Koh Samui. Rent a car to take in all the quirky sights, including the 80-foot tall gold-tiled Big Buddha at Koh Faan, the wonderful Rocks at Lamai Beach, the Snake Farm and the omnipresent coconut-collecting monkeys. Head to Chaweng for a lively beach scene and ample nightlife or Maenam Beach for a low-key getaway.

Getting Downtown Koh Samui
The airport on Koh Samui is still relatively small compared to others in Thailand but retains a unique quality of knowing you are somewhere special when you land here. There are a few transport options from Samui airport and it’s easy enough to get to your destination. The most expensive option is to take a private taxi (500 THB) but there are also minivans – where the price will depend on the number of people travelling, the cheapest option is to walk out of the airport and take a songthaew if you can find one or balance yourself and your luggage on the back of a motorbike taxi.

Peak Season:
An average temperature of 28°C makes Koh Samui is the perfect year-round destination. Overall the best time to visit is November to February when the days are almost exclusively dry and the humidity lower. February to May there will be occasional rain and higher humidity but still a good time to visit.
 

Off Season:
June through to October is the low season with heavy rain and high levels of humidity.
