Overview

Morocco´s most exciting and vibrant city, Marrakech has a thousand year old history. Crammed with historic buildings, mosques and souks, Marrakech is a delight for the senses. Traversing the alleyways and souks of Marrakech, particularly in the Medina (Old City), it is easy to believe you have been transported back in time or stumbled onto a movie set for a medieval ´Arabian nights´ production. It is this enchanting fairy tale quality that brings thousands of sightseers to the most visited destination of three Imperial Cities.

Distance from Airport

Marrakech-Menara International Airport is located about 6km (4 miles) southwest of Marrakech.

Getting Downtown Marrakech

A petits taxi (small beige compact cars) to Marrakech from the airport (6km) should be no more than £6. Bus 11 is supposed to run to the medina every 30 minutes but service can be erratic. Petits taxis are a better bet and can be found in the driveway near the parking lot. Bargain in advance for a fare, which should cost more than Dh70 (£6) by day or Dh100 (£8) at night. Airport transfers can also be arranged through your hotel.

When to Fly to Marrakech

Peak Season:
Despite the heat, July and August is the best time to visit Marrakech. In spring the Christian Holy Week (Easter) brings huge crowds of holidaymakers, especially from France.

Off Season:
September to December are pleasant with cool evenings. January through February the weather is unpredictable and sometimes chilly. The Muslim Ramadan takes place between mid-October and mid-November and nearly all restaurants and cafes are closed during this time.
